Kirlian Effect – The Principle, Tricks, Technology and the Truth

By Dr Tom J. Chalko, MSc, PhD University of Melbourne, Australia

Commercial Tricks and Fake Aura Cameras

It is my duty as a scientist and academic to comment on science, tricks and quackery of contemporary Aura “technology”. At nearly every New Age festival you can find commercially minded people who will ask you to pay for a “photo of your Aura”.

Unfortunately most of so-called “aura cameras” use a photographic trick called photo-montage to create an illusion of the Aura. These cameras have internal light sources which illuminate the film directly. Internal lights are controlled by simple measurement of skin resistance.

Although skin resistance is related to emotional state (lie detectors use this principle), it has nothing to do with true Aura vibration.

Any camera producing overexposed face images and “Auras” is a pure fake. Most crooks incorrectly call it “Kirlian”, despite the fact that such photos have absolutely nothing to do with Kirlian effect.

Proof: Hold Aura Camera electrodes in your hands but do NOT sit in front of the camera. Face the camera toward a black screen. It will still produce a fake “aura” every time — even without you present.

True Aura is constantly changing like flame or hot air and never has smooth regular shape. Each person has an individual pattern, like a fingerprint.

Real Kirlian Technology

We should learn to see Auras with our own eyes. Commercial misinformation is widespread. People are impressed by gadgets without understanding their principles.

At present, the only technique on Earth to register small fragments of Aura vibration is Kirlian technology.

Although Nikola Tesla noticed body glow in the late 19th century, the recording technique was pioneered by the Kirlian couple in Russia in 1939.

Principle of the Kirlian Effect

When you want to listen to vibration of a bell, you strike it briefly and then listen to its tone. Without excitation, vibration is too small to detect.

Similarly, to record natural Aura vibrations, excitation is required. Short microsecond high voltage impulses are applied to the body, and its UV and visible response is recorded over milliseconds or seconds.

Our body produces static electricity naturally. Prof Korotkov developed safe minimal excitation methods for recordable Aura responses.

With true Kirlian technology, you can see fingertips glow with your own eyes.

Technological Limitations

Kirlian devices currently record Aura around fingertips or hands for safety reasons due to high voltage.

Modern devices developed in St. Petersburg use computer-controlled CCD arrays instead of film for real-time visualization.

No Kirlian camera can record true Aura colors. RGB or CMYK film cannot capture full spectral information. Current devices record intensity distribution only. Artificial coloring is added to show hot and cold spots.

Medical Potential

Kirlian Aura may serve as powerful medical diagnostic tool. It can show malfunctions in body and mind long before physical symptoms appear.

Using Kirlian diagnostics may allow preventive action rather than emergency treatments or surgery.
