Bandhas in Yoga
In yoga, Bandhas (Sanskrit for "lock" or "bind"or seal ) are internal energy locks created by muscular contractions to control and direct prana (life force) within the body, acting like valves to seal, build, and release energy for spiritual growth and physical rejuvenation, primarily involving the root, abdomen, and throat. The main ones are Mula Bandha (root lock), Uddiyana Bandha (abdominal lock), Jalandhara Bandha (throat lock), and Maha Bandha (the great lock, combining all three), which enhance focus, purify organs, boost circulation, and support deeper meditative states.
The four major bandhas are:
• Mula Bandha
• Uddiyana Bandha
• Jalandhara Bandha
